There’s a certain amount of height, skill and physicality Weber State women’s basketball is looking for at positions 3-5 and head coach Jenteal Jackson thinks she’s added such a player to bring depth to the Wildcats in those spots.
Junior college player Celestine Segretain announced her commitment to Weber State last week and Jackson reported her as officially signed to join the Wildcats for the 2025-26 season.
The 6-foot wing/forward from France spent one year at Sacramento State before playing this season at Eastern Arizona College.
“She’s a true 6-foot, tough, physical kid, strong build. Somebody who’s going to compete every single second, whether it’s a practice drill or the last five seconds of the game. Her effort is always there,” Jackson said. “She’s really going to bring that tough, X-factor feel to the group where she can score it but she’ll be able to go lock someone down on defense, hit somebody on a box-out — those types of things we really wanted to add more of to our group next season.”
She averaged 5.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 16 minutes per game at Eastern Arizona.
“My JUCO year was a great experience for me growing in basketball, and mentally,” Segretain said. “A lot of growth … improving my basketball IQ and also confidence.”
Segretain said her role in junior college was to play forward and set screens, so she’s looking forward to getting time as a wing player who can dribble off screens and attack.
“I can post up, I have moves around the basket, but I want to improve on the wing,” she said.
That matches with what Jackson envisions for her at Weber State.
“Right now she’s a little bit more of a four but we’re excited to push her game and push her capabilities to extend to the three,” Jackson said. “She can definitely play the three right now but I think with some skill development that we’ll do, the reps we’ll get her, she’ll be there in no time to feel confident in that spot.”
Segretain originally had offers from UC Irvine, UTEP and Sacramento State when arriving to the United States. Segretain said she’s the only person in her family who plays basketball but she’s played since she was 6 years old and wanted to make her own way to the United States to compete in college.
She said she canceled a visit to her other main Division I interest, South Carolina-Upstate, and had a handful of D2 offers before pledging to Weber State.
Segretain has now seen Big Sky country and the whole of Arizona in her two basketball seasons so far and said she liked Utah on her visit.
“I love traveling, I love learning. Getting out of my comfort zone is something I like to do, be adaptable,” she said. “Moving to these different places helps me grow even more … find a way to be in it, build relationships, and now I definitely want to be at the same place for two years.”
Segretain joins Montana State guard Hannah Robbins as two publicly committed transfers to join the Wildcats this offseason. WSU should add four more scholarship players, most of which are likely to be incoming transfers, heading into Jackson’s third season as head coach.
