Weber State women’s basketball falls 86-46 at Utah
The University of Utah women’s basketball team blitzed Weber State into 17 first-half turnovers and used that margin to cruise past the Wildcats 86-46 on Thursday evening in Salt Lake City.
Utah used those turnovers to build a 47-14 halftime lead. Ultimately, the Utes scored 38 points off 26 turnovers.
Mayè Tourè led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 10 of 13 from the field for Utah (2-0). Gianna Kneepkens (15), Kennady McQueen (13) and Inês Vieira (12) each scored in double figures, with Vieira adding eight assists.
Weber State (1-1), which managed just six field goals in the first half, shot 13 of 28 in a second half the Utes won 39-32. Seniors Rita Satini and Rose Bubakar each tallied 10 points for the Wildcats. Taylor Smith pulled down five rebounds.
Utah outshot WSU 13-3 at the 3-point line; Lanae Billy, Dakota Nap and Kaitlin Burgess each made one triple for the Wildcats. Kneepkens and McQueen both made three for Utah.
Just outside the top 25 to start the season, Utah is 2-0 after defeating Southern Utah 105-52 to start the season. The Utes travel to Northwestern on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Weber State next hosts San Diego at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
