Boston College defensive back Sione Hala (7) is seen during a game against Florida State on Sept. 16, 2023, in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The transfer portal has made college recruiting a year-round effort and that continues for Weber State football during the holiday season.

The Wildcats secured commitments from two FBS transfers this week while one more WSU player has entered the portal.

One addition is at quarterback. UTSA transfer Jackson Gilkey announced his commitment to Weber State after two seasons as a Roadrunner. A 6-foot-2 Texas native, Gilkey redshirted one season and has three left.

Gilkey was a three-star prospect out of Ennis High School with FBS offers from Houston, San Diego State, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and Tulane. He joins returning junior Dijon Jennings and incoming freshman Kingston Tisdell as quarterbacks currently in the fold at Weber State.

The other addition comes on the defensive side with former four-star recruit Sione Hala. The 6-foot-2 safety turned linebacker played two seasons at Boston College, totaling 37 tackles and one sack in 21 games.

The Los Angeles native originally chose Boston College out of high school over a handful of FBS offers, including Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.

The Wildcats currently have 13 known outgoing players with names listed in the transfer portal. Three of them have committed or signed to new schools: defensive end Braydon Wilson (Wyoming), offensive lineman Lavaka Taukeiaho (Oklahoma State) and defensive back Zavien Abercrombie (Nevada).

Frankie Edwards, who stepped into a starting cornerback role as a freshman after early injuries, recently added his name to the portal. Other currently uncommitted departing players include offensive players Richie Muñoz, Damon Bankston, Adrian Cormier, Terrance Caldwell, Peter Knudson and Keayen Nead.

With a recent court ruling that led the NCAA to allow one additional year of eligibility to former junior college players, defensive tackle Steven Bryant entered his name into the transfer portal, joining other defensive players Bronson Childs and EJ Evett.

Saturday is the final day players can enter their names into the transfer portal until the post-spring window of April 16-25.

Starting at $4.32/week.
