Weber State football unveiled new purple uniforms for the 2023 season on Tuesday and, while the changes are subtle, they mark a return, in part, to a more classic look the program used in the 1990s and prior.
As the photos show, the team has brought back a more classic set of stripes for the helmet, shoulders and pants. Since the 2000s, WSU’s football uniforms have featured various forms of pointy, swoopy or tapered stripes, or have not featured any stripes.
The helmets feature a straight double stripe over the middle of the helmet, with the updated cat head logo on both sides. That’s a change from several recent seasons that featured the cat logo on one side and a number on the other.
Other helmet details include customized bumpers, which are the pieces of plastic above the facemask and that cover the bottom of the helmet’s rear-bottom edge. The front bumper displays the Go W logo and the rear bumper reads “Great! Great! Great!” — part of the longtime WSU sports chant.
The jersey sleeves and pants both feature the type of lines commonly referred to as the Northwestern stripe, with one thick stripe flanked by thinner stripes on both sides. The most recent purple tops did not feature sleeve stripes and previous pants had a “Wildcats” wordmark down the side.

The uniform top wordmark and numbers have changed styles from more traditional block letters and numbers (with serifs) to a bigger, chunkier sans-serif style with some corners angled off.
If tradition holds, these will be the only new uniforms for the 2023 season, and the team’s white and black uniforms will be updated to match this style in future seasons.
