Ogden Raptors: Stone leads no-hitter to shut out visiting Glacier
OGDEN — The Ogden Raptors used four pitchers to throw a combined no-hitter and shut out the visiting Glacier Range Riders 8-0 on Thursday night at Lindquist Field.
Mitchell Stone led the effort and picked up the win with a five-inning start.
Shawn Triplett followed with two hitless, scoreless innings. Cameron Edmondson threw the eighth inning.
Dylan Matsuoka threw a 1-2-3 ninth, getting a lineout to second, a flyout to left and slamming the door on the no-hitter with a strikeout of Glacier’s Christian Kirtley.
The no-hit shutout wasn’t without drama, however, as Ogden’s pitchers combined to walk eight batters. Stone walked five of them and also hit three batters.
Stone hit two batters and walked another to lead off the second inning, then struck out three straight to leave the bases loaded — giving him five strikeouts through two frames. Stone struck out another with a runner on third and two outs in the third inning.
Three more walks in the fifth loaded the bases but Stone ended his night by inducing an inning-ending groundout.
Edmondson walked two in the eighth but got a strikeout and groundout to get around it.
Overall, Ogden (40-53, 18-27 second half) pitchers piled up 13 strikeouts to go with the no-hitter and pitch around all the baserunners. Glacier (46-47, 17-28) hit 0 for 15 with runners in scoring position.
At the plate, the home team stretched a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning before adding cushion in the bottom half. Singles from Landen Barns and Logan Williams set up a two-RBI single from Connor Bagnieski and a three-run homer by Chris Sargent to make the 8-0 lead.
Cole Jordan hit a solo homer in the first, and Williams added one run each in the fourth and sixth innings with an RBI groundout and a run-scoring single.
The two teams play again at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and Ogden finishes the regular season with home games at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
