Eugene Morgan, Ogden Raptors

Ogden Raptors outfielder Jack Cone (16) breaks his bat and puts the ball in play against Missoula on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Lindquist Field in Ogden.

Jack Cone and Nick Ultsch led a parade of five homers and 10 extra-base hits for Ogden, Rafael Vazquez keyed another excellent pitching night, and the Raptors defeated the Boise Hawks 16-1 on Saturday night at Lindquist Field.

Vazquez allowed one unearned run on five hits, striking out seven and walking one over six innings for a mound victory.

Two Utah relievers in Carson Angeroth (Cottonwood High School, Utah Tech) and Shawn Triplett (Providence/Ridgeline High School) brought it the rest of the way. Angeroth allowed one baserunner in two innings, striking out one. Triplett threw a 1-2-3 ninth.

The three pitchers combined to walk one batter; Ogden hurlers have issued just four walks in the last 27 innings, and only two in the last 20 innings.

Meanwhile, the Raptors (16-19) mashed at the plate. Ogden had six-run innings in the second and the fifth.

Ultsch hit a grand slam in the second and Connor Bagnieski a solo shot to get things going. Raymond Gil hit a solo homer in the fourth, Chris Sargent a two-run dinger in the fifth, and Cone finished things off with a three-run blast in the sixth.

Cone homered, doubled and drove in six. Ultsch was 3 for 5 with his homer, a double and five RBIs. Gil (3 for 3) and Pearce Howard also doubled, and Bagnieski added a triple.

Boise (20-15) starter Robert Dudzinksi took the loss, allowing six runs in 2 1/3 innings.

The Hawks’ run came in the fifth when DJ Poteet scored on a sacrifice fly that would’ve been the third out of the inning if not for an error earlier in the frame.

Ogden goes for a series win at 2 p.m. Sunday.
