OGDEN — With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the first on Thursday night, Ogden shortstop Cole Jordan headed to first base on an inside pitch, claiming he was hit on the arm.

After deliberating, the umpires sent Jordan, a Utah Valley alum, back to the plate to continue his at-bat — which worked in his team’s favor.

Jordan lined an opposite-field triple to the right-field corner, clearing the bases for a 4-0 lead. After netting just one run over the first two games of the series, Jordan’s triple sparked the Ogden Raptors to an 18-10 victory over the Boise Hawks at Lindquist Field.

The Raptors (14-19) kept adding runs in chunks.

In the second inning, left fielder Nick Ultsch cracked a two-run home run to right-center for a 7-0 lead. In the third inning, third baseman Landen Barns hit a two-RBI single to right, making it 9-0. In the fourth, with a left-to-right wind, second baseman Raymond Gil put a ball into the jetstream for a three-run homer and a 14-0 lead.

Ogden starter Adrian Santa Cruz threw marvelously for four innings, holding Boise (20-13) batters to one hit and one walk on 47 pitches.

Once down 14-0, the Hawks loosened things up and tagged Santa Cruz for six runs on four hits in the fifth. Santa Cruz still earned the win, striking out three and walking one.

Shane Gustafson struck out five in two innings but allowed three runs, though just one earned, in middle relief. Providence, Utah native Shawn Triplett threw the final two innings for Ogden, surrendering one run on two hits.

Jordan and Gil led Ogden with three RBIs each. Jordan, Barns and Pearce Howard each totaled three hits. Jack Cone, Connor Bagnieski and Chris Coipel each hit a double.

Ogden knocked Boise starter Reed Garland out of the game with just one out in the first.

Boise first baseman Micah Yonamine hit a homer, a double and drove in three.

The two teams play again at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
