Raptors can’t get bats going Sunday, lose to finish series with Vibes
Former Raptors pitcher Christian Day and four Rocky Mountain relievers held back Ogden’s bats Sunday afternoon as the Raptors fell 10-4 to close the six-game, two-location series between the two squads in a 3-3 split to open the second half.
Day had a no-hitter through four innings, by which point the Vibes (24-28, 3-3 second half) had a 5-0 lead against Ogden starter Adrian Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz gave up four earned runs on six hits and three walks for Ogden (25-29, 3-3). Austin Chouinard’s two-run single in the fourth got the home team up five runs.
Ogden outfielder Pearce Howard ended Day’s no-hitter with a double to lead off the fifth. RBI singles from True Fontenot and Elliott Good, and a sacrifice fly by Jack Cone, cut the deficit to 5-3 to end Day’s day.
When Landen Barns singled with two outs and scored on a Good triple to make it 6-4 at the seventh-inning stretch, it looked like the Raptors might have enough offense in the tank to win the series.
That changed in the eighth inning. Against Raptors reliever Dylan Matsuoka, Dane Tofteland tripled to score a run, scored himself on a wild pitch, and Stephen Wilmer poled a solo homer for the final 10-4 margin.
Good was the only multi-hit batter for Ogden with two as Rocky Mountain outhit the Raptors 15-7.
Shortstop Josh Day hit 4 for 4 and scored three times to lead the Vibes at the plate.
Ogden remains on the road, facing Northern Colorado (32-21, 4-2) from July 23-28.
