Ogden Raptors hitter Nick Ultsch swings at a pitch against Idaho Falls on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Lindquist Field in Ogden.

A late five-run rally kicked off by Nick Ultsch helped the Ogden Raptors curve around the Rocky Mountain Vibes 9-5 on Tuesday night at UCHealth Park in Colorado Springs.

Ultsch (2 for 5) overturned a one-run deficit for the Raptors (17-20) in the top of the ninth, as right fielder Pearce Howard (2 for 5), first baseman Connor Bagnieski (1 for 4) and second baseman Cole Jordan (3 for 4) delivered four unanswered runs in the side.

Ogden, claiming its first win of a lengthy road trip, continues to build on a first-half rebound after splitting its latest home series 3-3 with Boise. The Raptors will visit the Billings Mustangs (16-20) and the Missoula Paddleheads (27-9) before hosting the Vibes on July 15 for another six-game duel.

Raptors starter Christian Griffin (1.2 IP, H) picked up the win, as Ogden silenced the Vibes (17-16) through the final five frames.

Howard put the Raptors on the board first, bringing center fielder Jack Cone (3 for 5) home on a groundout to second. Rocky Mountain responded with a three-run bump led by first baseman Dane Tofteland (2 for 5) to leave the inning with a two-run lead.

The Vibes, enduring an RBI double off the bat of Raptors shortstop Slater Schield (1 for 5) in the second, later jumped to a three-run lead thanks to a one-run homer by Tofteland in the third and an RBI single by right fielder Steven Rivas (3 for 5) in the fourth.

Ogden decided it’d seen enough.

Ultsch homered for his first hit of the night in the top of the fifth and designated hitter Raymond Gil (2 for 4) followed suit with a one-run bomb in the seventh to make it a manageable 5-4 game for the Raptors leading up to the decisive ninth inning.

Raptors starter Chris Macca (0-1) allowed 10 hits, five earned runs, a walk and delivered just one strikeout through 4.0 innings of work.

Both teams continue their six-game test on Wednesday at UCHealth Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
