Hess solid, Ogden Raptors claim 5-inning win at Great Falls

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | Aug 10, 2024

Matthew Hess threw well for five innings Saturday and that was all the Ogden Raptors needed in a rain-shortened, 8-2 victory at Great Falls.

Ogden (33-38, 11-12 second half) has won four straight for the second time this season.

Connor Bagnieski (RBI groundout) and True Fontenot (RBI single) put the Raptors ahead 2-0 after two.

The rest of Ogden’s runs came in the fourth: a Bagnieski RBI double, two-run homers each from Elliott Good and Jack Cone, and a Chris Sargent RBI single.

Hess threw all five innings and allowed one earned run on five hits, striking out two and walking three. In the first and third innings, he recorded third outs (one strikeout, one foul-out) to leave a Great Falls (23-48, 7-16) runner on third base.

The Raptors outhit the Voyagers 10-5; all nine Ogden batters recorded a hit, with Fontenot going 2 for 2.

The teams finish the series at 11:30 a.m. Sunday as the Raptors go for their first five-win series of the season.
