Ogden Raptors record final out at plate to hang on for win at Great Falls
The Ogden Raptors held on after nearly giving up leads of 6-0 and 8-3, and caught a runner stealing home to take an 8-7 win Friday at Great Falls — giving Ogden a three-game winning streak for the first time since June 29.
Ogden (32-38, 10-12 second half) took an 8-6 lead into the ninth when reliever Dylan Matsuoka issued a walk and gave up a single to Oscar Serratos Jr., making Serratos the tying run on base for the Voyagers (23-47, 7-15).
Great Falls moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Devin Hurdle then scored on a groundout to make it 8-7.
On third, Serratos attempted to steal home and was caught, ending the game.
Ogden starter Chris Macca held Great Falls scoreless through four before the Voyagers broke through with an RBI triple from Caden Green, sparking three runs in the fifth.
That made it 6-3 after the Raptors got out to a 6-0 start.
What ended up being Ogden’s biggest swing of the bat came in the sixth when Nick Ultsch ripped a two-RBI triple to put his team up 8-3.
Great Falls chipped away with two runs over two innings against Quinn Waterhouse and another run against Christian Griffin in the eighth, setting up the dramatic ninth.
Ultsch finished 3 for 4 and Cole Jordan was 2 for 3, each driving in two for Ogden. Drew Brutcher batted 3 for 5.
Green and Ryan Major each totaled three hits at the top of the Great Falls order.
The two teams play again at 7 p.m. Saturday.
