OGDEN — One can catch three Crowthers on the court for Ogden boys volleyball this season.

Brothers Case Crowther, a senior, Keen Crowther, a junior, and Kos Crowther, a freshman, comprise half of the starting lineup this spring as the Tigers (4-4) returned home to sweep Mountain Crest 25-19, 25-5, 25-9 on Wednesday.

Picking up the game at an early age, Case’s coercion of his younger siblings, both members of the football team this fall, coincided with the UHSAA’s addition of boys volleyball in 2022. Until then, Case and his brothers competed together on club teams coached by their mother.

But Keen’s and Kos’ inclusion on those early teams was more circumstance than choice.

“They did not love volleyball,” Case Crowther said. “My mom started coaching us at first and she didn’t have enough players so she stuck these two on the team.”

As a running back, Keen Crowther rushed for more than 500 yards and five touchdowns in addition to serving as the Tigers’ backup quarterback. On the volleyball court, Keen developed a reputation for getting his body above the net and putting his arm strength to use.

Whatever reservations Keen might’ve had at the time were soon washed away. Ogden’s starting outside hitter entered Wednesday leading the team with 78 kills. Case leads the team with 12 serving aces and Kos currently leads both older brothers, and the team, with 63 digs.

“There’s no jumping in football,” Keen Crowther said. “I hurdled a kid in football once, but that was kind of a marvel.”

Now in his fifth year of playing volleyball, Kos Crowther didn’t flinch at the opportunity to play alongside both brothers after sharing the gridiron with Keen this fall. His older brothers set quite the expectation too, with Keen leading the team with 249 kills and Case bolstering a 92.4 serving percentage last season.

A year ago, Ogden capped that season 15-12, falling to Grantsville in the 3A state semifinals. When spring arrived, Kos Crowther leaped at the chance to grow the varsity bloodline.

“I get to play with my brothers,” Kos Crowther said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Ogden returned home for a second consecutive win Wednesday after closing a tournament run at Westlake with a 2-3 record, winning two matches over Spanish Fork. The Tigers begin region play at Grantsville on Tuesday, March. 18.
