PLAIN CITY — T’Maea Eteuati came ready to check all the boxes.

The Davis junior tallied 26 points, including four 3-pointers, to topple second-ranked Fremont 57-47 for a third consecutive win in a marquee girls basketball matchup Friday night.

Giving up 25 at their place the last time around, Davis (12-5, 4-2 Region 1) opened the evening in reverse fashion by denying any and everything the Silverwolves (16-3, 4-2) offense offered — and utilized a momentous second quarter to kept the home team biting at their heels.

Davis sophomore Kate Willard (16 points) buried eight shots inside the arc and junior Chloe Peery added nine second-half points, including a perfect 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. Seniors Sydney Plummer and Mari Nichols each added 3-point baskets.

“We put in the time at practice and really pushed each other,” Eteuati said. “We made practice harder so the game could be easier. … It’s really hard to come to Fremont and win. They always have a great crowd and come ready to play so I’d rank this as our No. 1 away win.”

Sophomore Abby Christensen led Fremont with 15 points, including two 3-pointers, with teammates Olivia Surrage and Mia McArthur adding nine apiece to the effort. After bouncing back at Layton on Tuesday, Fremont takes another step back with just four games to go.

Davis’ defense was the undisputed story of the first half as the Darts climbed up seven with little from the Silverwolves materializing in the first quarter. A 3-pointer by sophomore Brynn Wadman kept Fremont within a basket when the first quarter wrapped.

Eteuati ripped off three unanswered 3-point baskets, helping Davis lead by as much as 12 during the second quarter. Struggling to protect the ball, Fremont finally caught a break via Christensen beyond the arc but the Darts led by three possessions, 25-18, at halftime.

Nothing about her team’s first-half defense appeared familiar, Dalebout said.

“It was really uncharacteristic of us,” Dalebout said. “We just couldn’t get stops. I felt we didn’t play very united on the defensive end. That was most of it. … We lost track of (Eteauti) a lot and we let her get going. When you let good players get going, it’s hard to get them to stop.”

Beginning the third quarter on a 9-2 run, Davis kept the Silverwolves at bay offensively and ran up the scoring on the other end. Fighting through two defenders, Peery found a rebound and drew the whistle on the putback to give the Darts their largest lead of 17 with 3 minutes to go.

Christensen reeled Fremont within 12 of Davis late in the third and the Silverwolves even closed the quarter with a stop, but opened the fourth quarter down 14 just the same. Paring back offensively, Davis watched its lead regress by half two minutes into the fourth quarter.

A McAarthur free throw drew Fremont within six but they’d never come closer. Davis answered on its next two possessions, including another 3-pointer by Eteuati, to go up 11 and race away from the charity stripe.

Each holding two region losses, Fremont and Davis are tied for second behind Syracuse; the Titans improved to 16-2 overall and 6-0 in Region 1 with a 20-point win over Layton.

Giving up just their third loss of the regular season, Fremont now looks to build upon an otherwise successful winter campaign — albeit with some challenges.

“They’re an incredibly young team,” Dalebout said. “At one point we had all sophomores on the floor. They’re going to have to learn that the hard way and basketball’s pretty cruel — it’s not going to let you figure it other way than these hard losses.”

Davis hosts Layton on Tuesday (5:15 p.m.); Fremont travels to Farmington (5:15 p.m.).
