Prep basketball roundup: Ogden girls top Ben Lomond in Phil Russell Memorial Game

OGDEN — In a defensive effort that would have made the old ball coach proud, Ogden High girls basketball held Ben Lomond to single-digits in each quarter on the way to a 55-27 victory Tuesday night in its annual Phil Russell Memorial Game.

“Both Ben Lomond and Ogden battled like true rivals. We both honored Coach Russell’s legacy. He would be proud!” Ogden coach Andy Blodgett said.

Ogden’s Renee Brockbader and Ben Lomond’s Claudia Avina were each awarded a $500 scholarship from the Phil Russell Legacy Foundation.

On the court, Salote Tonga scored 13 points and Macy Vine 12 to lead Ogden (7-9, 1-2 Region 13).

For Ben Lomond (2-12, 0-3), Payton Huff scored 15 points and Aleia Huff added 10.

GREEN CANYON 55, WEST FIELD 47

TAYLOR — West Field led 22-20 at the half but Green Canyon (7-9, 2-2 Region 11) outscored the Longhorns 15-4 in the third quarter to take control of the region contest.

Canyon Britt led West Field (4-11, 0-3) with 18 points and three 3-pointers. Jalyn Coombs tallied 13 points while Kylee Mueller scored eight points.

SYRACUSE 77, WEBER 64

PLEASANT VIEW — Syracuse High boys basketball posted a 46-30 advantage across the second and third frames for a 77-64 region road win Tuesday at Weber.

Bradlee Trejo scored a game-high 21 points with three 3-pointers for Syracuse (8-7, 1-1 Region 1). Skyler Orton tallied 20 points and Carter Robinson scored 18.

Brandon Crockett led Weber (10-5, 1-1) with 18 points. Ryder Howe scored 11 points with two 3-pointers. Luke Bingham tallied 10 points.

FARMINGTON 61, FREMONT 51

PLAIN CITY — Farmington trailed 43-41 after three quarters but outpaced Fremont 20-8 in the fourth quarter.

Easton Duft led Fremont (4-11, 0-2 Region 1) with 11 points and six assists. Cam Campbell added seven points and five rebounds.

Cameron Brower scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter for Farmington (5-9, 1-1).

MORGAN 61, BEAR RIVER 50

GARLAND — Bracken Saunders scored 24 points, shot 9 of 11 from the free-throw line and added nine rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Morgan to a win at Bear River Monday.

Jake Hansen added 15 points, three assists and four steals for Morgan (14-1) with two 3-pointers. Mason Williams tallied nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks. The Trojans shot 21 of 59 (39%) from the floor and 12 of 15 (80%) from the foul line.

Bear River (5-10) did not report stats.
