OGDEN — Newly retired Erik Thompson joined an exclusive club during his induction celebration into the Ogden High School Hall of Fame on Friday. The gathering included family, close friends, former coaching colleagues and former players from Thompson’s storied career.
After 21 years as a head football coach, Thompson’s name now sits beside Heisman High School winner Blake Moore and former Utah star tight end Ben Moa.
Thompson was diagnosed with ALS in 2021 and spent recent seasons documenting his story on the field and at home. Ogden promoted eight-year defensive coordinator and longtime Thompson associate Terry Larsen to the head coaching position in December.
The celebration included an opportunity for guests to visit with Thompson, scribble their favorite memories onto commemorative place cards and stay for a brief ceremony hosted by current Ogden athletic director Ross Arnold.
Thompson officially stepped down as Ogden’s head coach following a 7-4 finish in his eighth and final season with the program. Thompson spent the first 13 years of his coaching career at Northridge until leaving for a turnaround project at Ogden in 2017.
