Prep basketball roundup: Roy girls hold off Bonneville; Bear River boys get region win
ROY — Bonneville opened the fourth quarter on a 13-5 run but Roy High girls basketball countered with a 6-0 rally to retake control and hang on for a rivalry win, claiming a 47-44 region victory Wednesday.
Bonneville got 3s from Ema Eskelsen and Charity McDonald to open the quarter, and Baya Jimenez put back an offensive rebound to make it 45-44 with 25.5 seconds left.
Rihanna May scored eight of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter for Roy. After rebound putbacks from Jerzee Hart and Ellie Speredon, May knocked down a 12-foot jumper, then made two free throws in the final 20 seconds to help seal it.
Ariana Strain scored 11 points and Hart added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Royals (4-7, 2-1 Region 5). May pulled down 10 rebounds.
Eskelsen led the Lakers (4-8, 0-3) with 14 points. Jimenez totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Adisyn Stone added nine points.
CLEARFIELD 40, WOODS CROSS 23
CLEARFIELD — Clearfield held Woods Cross (8-4, 2-1 Region 5) to four points in each of the first two quarters in a home region win.
Xiyah Yarbrough led Clearfield (8-4, 3-0 Region 5) with 10 points. Ciara De La O tallied eight points, Izzy Wyaskett scored seven and Destini Gomez hit two 3-pointers for six points.
MTN CREST 54, BEAR RIVER 40
GARLAND — A close game gave out for Bear River as Mountain Crest (10-5, 3-0 Region 11) claimed the fourth quarter 19-11 on Tuesday.
Aubree Fry led Bear River (2-11, 0-3) with 13 points. Brooklyn Pond, Shelby Wilkinson and Madison Littlefield each scored six points.

HYRUM — Tydon Jones scored 17 points to lead Bear River (5-8, 1-2 Region 11) to its first region win, a road victory at Mountain Crest (5-10, 1-3).

SMITHFIELD — West Field outscored Sky View (8-7, 3-1 Region 11) 22-16 in the fourth quarter but the comeback bid fell short in a region road loss.
Daxton Laughter led West Field (7-7, 1-2) with 12 points. Jordan Harrison scored 11 points and Cole McCormick scored 10.
LAYTON CHRISTIAN 73, PAYSON 50
PAYSON — Albert Ntungicimpaye scored 16 points with three 3-pointers and dished out six assists to lead Layton Christian to a win at Payson on Tuesday.
Tyrin Jones and Samuel Obenjo each added 10 points for Layton Christian (9-8), with Jones tallying 10 assists, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. The Eagles ran out to a 30-11 lead after one quarter.
