Prep roundup: Davis boys basketball wins title in Arizona tournament
MESA, Ariz. — Davis rallied from down 15 late in the second quarter to defeat Santa Barbara (California) 77-72 and win the Grand Canyon division Saturday at the Nike Tournament of Champions.
Coleman Atwater, named tournament MVP, poured in 27 points on six 3-pointers while adding three steals to lead Davis (11-2).
JT Turley added 25 points and four assists; Turley and Bode Sparrow earned all-tournament team honors. Croydon Christensen totaled eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
Davis shot 11 of 22 from the 3-point line and was 15 of 24 (62.5%) from the field in the second half. The Darts outscored Santa Barbara 30-18 in the paint.

TAYLOR — West Field burst to a 21-8 lead after one quarter, good enough to lead the Longhorns to their first-ever region win in defeating Mountain Crest (5-8, 1-1 Region 11).
Daxton Laughter scored 11 of his 13 points in the big first quarter for West Field (7-6, 1-1). Cason Malan also scored 13 points and Jaxon Slaugh added 11.

TAYLOR — West Field’s four fourth-quarter points doomed the Longhorns in a loss to Mountain Crest in a region opener Saturday.
Canyon Britt led West Field (3-9, 0-1 Region 11) with 19 points, making four 3-pointers. Ella Doxey added nine points.

RICHFIELD — Bonneville’s returning state champs took first place in their weight classes and the Lakers placed eighth at the Utah Winter Classic, held at the Sevier Valley Center.
Alexis Kirkland won first place at 140 pounds and Hannah Bowler claimed the top of the podium at 155.
