Prep basketball roundup: Bonneville boys 2-0 early in Region 5; Roy girls top Northridge
WASHINGTON TERRACE — Clearfield rallied 20-8 in the fourth quarter but Bonneville High boys basketball held on for a 55-51 home region win Friday, improving to 2-0 early in the Region 5 schedule.
Davis Degroot led Bonneville (5-6, 2-0 Region 5) with 17 points. Luke Hall scored 11 points. Bryson Landis totaled 10 points and eight rebounds, and Ben Tesch pulled down eight boards.
For Clearfield (2-9, 0-2), Alyric Kelly led all scorers with 18 points and four 3-pointers. Jaxson Bishop added 14 points and four treys. The Falcons made 11 3-pointers compared to six two-point shots.
DAVIS 56, CANYON-CA 53
MESA, Ariz. — Davis won for the second straight night, outdoing Canyon (Anaheim, California) 14-11 in the fourth quarter for a win at the Nike Tournament of Champions.
JT Turley led Davis (10-2) with 14 points. Coleman Atwater scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Bode Sparrow totaled 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals.
The Darts outrebounded the Comanches 11-6 on the offensive glass for an 18-2 advantage in second-chance points, and totaled 30 points in the paint.
DAVIS 62, APOLLO-AZ 35
MESA, Ariz. — Coleman Atwater scored 15 points with three 3-pointers, six rebounds and two blocks to lead Davis past Apollo (Glendale, Arizona) at Nike’s Tournament of Champions on Thursday.
JT Turley tallied 14 points and two treys for Davis. Bryker Couser added nine points and seven rebounds. Bode Sparrow and Croyden Christensen each scored eight points, with Christensen hauling in five rebounds and Sparrow dishing out five assists.
SKYRIDGE 52, FREMONT 45
PLAIN CITY — Fremont couldn’t overcome scoring just 13 first-half points in a home loss to Skyridge.
Easton Duft scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter for Fremont (4-8), passing four assists. Dylan Bruce added 12 points and six rebounds. Zach Hancock pitched in four points and five rebounds.
WOODS CROSS 64, BOX ELDER 51
WOODS CROSS — Box Elder fell behind 18-6 after the first quarter and could not recover in a region loss at Woods Cross (6-5, 1-1 Region 5).
Mayson Jeppsen led Box Elder (0-11, 0-2) with 14 points. Ryan Jenson scored 11 points and Krew Peterson added nine. Peterson and Jenson each hit three 3-pointers. The Bees made 10 3-point field goals and six two-pointers.

LAYTON — Roy sprinted past Northridge 34-15 over the second and third quarters to claim a home region win.
Rihanna May led Roy (3-7, 1-1 Region 5) with 15 points. Ariana Strain scored 14 points, shooting 3 of 3 from the 3-point line while adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jerzee Hart added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Northridge (5-6, 1-1) got 17 points and seven rebounds from Karlee Mayfield. Izzy Kap added seven points and five rebounds.

TAYLOR — T’Maea Eteuati scored a game-high 20 points to lead Davis to a win at West Field.
Kate Willard added 10 points for Davis (7-3) and Kiara Zwonitzer seven.
Ella Doxey led West Field (3-8) with 10 points and two 3-pointers. Canyon Britt scored nine points.

OGDEN — Bear River jumped out to a 27-11 halftime lead in a road win at Ogden.
Salote Tonga led Ogden (6-7) with seven points and Taylor Duke escorted five.

OGDEN — Lizzie Randall scored 20 points to lead St. Joseph to a home win over Providence Hall.

LAYTON — Layton Christian scored 43 first-half points and raced past Taylorsville.
