Girls basketball roundup: Clearfield, St. Joseph bow out of playoffs

CLEARFIELD — No. 22 Spanish Fork (5-20) opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run and No. 6 Clearfield could not recover, taking a 66-58 home loss in the second round of the 5A girls basketball tournament.
Clearfield, who did not report stats, ended the season with a 17-7 record.
NORTH SUMMIT 61, ST. JOSEPH 25
RICHFIELD — Katelyn Martinez got No. 8 St. Joseph on the board with a free throw at the 1:41 mark of the first quarter to make the score 16-1 in a lopsided 2A quarterfinals loss to No. 1 North Summit at Sevier Valley Center.
Martinez led St. Joseph (16-6) with seven points. Cicily Flores and Lizzy Randall each scored five points.
Ellie Summers led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds for North Summit (24-1).
The Jayhawks will face No. 4 Draper APA or No. 5 Duchesne in the one-loss bracket at 11 a.m. Friday.
