Prep basketball roundup: Syracuse girls wrap up Region 1 title; Davis, Layton split boys crown

Aubri Stoker led all scorers with 19 points on four 3-pointers for Syracuse (19-3, 9-1 Region 1). Rachel McBride and Maylee Anderson each scored eight points.
Brooklyn Romney led Farmington (10-12, 3-9) with six points. Morgan Rogers and Ellie Dorius each scored four points.
ROY 57, BOX ELDER 33
ROY — Roy outscored Box Elder 18-5 in each of the second and third quarters for a region win.
Jazzi Prieto led all scorers with 11 points for Roy (8-14, 6-8 Region 5), adding five steals. Ariana Strain added 10 points. Rihanna May scored nine points on three 3-pointers. Iva Hunt hauled in seven rebounds and swiped five steals. The Royals finished fifth in Region 5.
Emma Nelson paced Box Elder (2-11, 1-13) with 10 points. Paola Almeida tallied seven points and seven rebounds. Jocelyn Vraned had six points and nine rebounds.
Roy shot 7 of 14 from beyond the arc and Box Elder shot 2 of 15 from distance.
MORGAN 58, NORTH SANPETE 27
MORGAN — No. 4 Morgan led 22-12 at the half in a 3A second-round win over No. 13 North Sanpete (7-17).
Eva Birkeland led Morgan (14-10) with 13 points and Makayla Williams scored 10.
Morgan next faces No. 5 Emery (14-10) in the quarterfinals. That game is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Utah Valley University.
ST. JOSEPH 55, AM. HERITAGE 29
OGDEN — In a rematch of Region 17 co-champions, No. 8 St. Joseph used a 20-7 second-quarter advantage to take control in a 2A playoffs second-round win over No. 9 American Heritage (11-8)
Lizzie Randall scored a game-high 19 points with three 3-pointers for No. 8 St. Joseph (16-5). Katelyn Martinez added 18 points and three treys. Abby Gough tallied seven points.
The Jayhawks will face No. 1 North Summit (22-1) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the 2A quarterfinals at Sevier Valley Center.
FREMONT 60, LAYTON 34
PLAIN CITY — Abby Christensen scored 23 points and Fremont finished the regular season slowly pulling away from Layton for a home win Thursday and a second-place finish in Region 1.
Mia McArthur scored nine points and Maya Jensen added eight for Fremont (20-3, 8-2 Region 1).
For Layton (2-20, 0-10), Lindsey Thurgood led with 12 points on an 8-of-10 mark at the foul line. Taya Pace added six points.
EMERY 61, OGDEN 24
CASTLE DALE — No. 5 Emery (14-10) outscored No. 12 Ogden 23-4 in the second quarter to take a 3A second-round matchup.
Lily Gonzalez led Ogden (8-16) with six points. Macy Vine scored four points.

DAVIS 66, WEBER 61
PLEASANT VIEW — Coleman Atwater scored a game-high 23 points on three 3-pointers, adding five rebounds and four assists, as Davis edged Weber to claim a share of the Region 1 championship.
Tradon Bessinger added 13 points on three treys, adding nine rebounds, for Davis (20-3, 9-1 Region 1). Bode Sparrow and JT Turley each scored 11 points.
Ben Olpin led Weber (14-9, 5-5) with 18 points on four 3-pointers while dishing seven assists. Luke Bingham scored 10 points and Will Stratford caged 11 rebounds as the Warriors finished in third place.
LAYTON 57, FREMONT 55 (OT)
PLAIN CITY — Sam Romer made the only field goal and all of his team’s points in a 3-1 overtime period to keep Layton’s pace with Davis atop Region 1 in a road win Thursday at Fremont, helping clinch a shared Region 1 title.
The game was tied 37-37 after three quarters and 54-54 at the end of regulation.
Romer led Layton (19-4, 9-1 Region 1) with 17 points. Karter Miller and Jonah Fullmer each netted 14 points.
Easton Duft led all scorers with 25 points for Fremont (5-18, 1-9). Cam Campbell and Jace Hadley each added eight points. Campbell totaled 13 rebounds.
NORTHRIDGE 55, BONNEVILLE 54
LAYTON — Ben Tesch scored a game-high 26 points for Bonneville but it wasn’t quite enough as Northridge claimed the win to finish fourth in Region 5.
Cael Lake led Northridge (9-14, 7-7 Region 1) with 16 points. Theo Roach scored 10 points and Jay Oliver added nine. Lake, Roach and Oliver each made two 3-pointers.
Bryson Landis added 20 points with two 3-pointers for Bonneville (9-14, 6-8), which finished tied with Box Elder for fifth place.
BOX ELDER 59, ROY 57 (OT)
ROY — Box Elder outscored Roy 9-7 in overtime to grab a region road win.
Carter Buchanan led Box Elder (6-17, 6-8 Region 5) with 15 points. Bryson White scored 13 points with three 3-pointers. Ryan Jenson added 12 points and seven rebounds. Kasen Anderson tallied 10 points with three treys. The Bees shot 10 of 29 from 3-point range.
Colby Frokjer led all scorers with 17 points on five 3-pointers for Roy (6-17, 4-10). Devin Nelson had 15 points and three assists. Tripp Randall added 10 points and seven rebounds. Jesse Jones hauled in eight rebounds.
The Bees finish tied for fifth in Region 5. Roy is seventh.
