Prep roundup: Pritchett pitches Layton baseball to victory

West Field baseball, softball keep adding region wins

SYRACUSE — Austin Pritchett pitched 6 2/3 innings while allowing zero earned runs and Layton High baseball answered Syracuse’s win Tuesday with its own victory in the series, a 9-1 decision Wednesday at Syracuse.

Prtichett spread one unearned run and seven hits across his frames, striking out five and walking two. Will Hoffman batted 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lead Layton (5-9, 4-1 Region 1) at the plate. Fish Manning hit 2 for 4 with a double and Nik Bielaczyc added a triple and two RBIs.

Bronx Manning drove in the run for Syracuse (3-9, 1-4). Caleb Wilson batted 2 for 3 while Easton Hamblin hit a triple.

CLEARFIELD 5, VIEWMONT 3

CLEARFIELD — Brody Unck struck out 10 batters and allowed one earned run in 6 1/3 innings, taking a shutout into the seventh on the way to a region win over Viewmont (8-8, 3-2 Region 5).

Drew Bremer batted 2 for 4 as the lone multi-hit batter for Clearfield (8-8, 4-1). George Carcia doubled. The Falcons took control with three first-inning runs.

WEST FIELD 15, GREEN CANYON 6

TAYLOR — West Field scored 10 runs in its final two at-bats to turn a 5-4 region battle into a big win over Green Canyon (3-16, 1-7 Region 11).

Nine of 14 hits were doubles for West Field (10-8, 6-2), led by two from Brady Penland, who batted 3 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Bryce Bagby drove in three runs and Tyce Abbott had two RBIs. Penland closed the game for the Longhorns, allowing one hit but facing the minimum six batters in two innings.


SOFTBALL

WEST FIELD 16, SKY VIEW 1

TAYLOR — Brylee Leatherwood led the charge for West Field to crush Sky View (6-13, 2-6 Region 11) in four innings.

Leatherwood batted 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, six RBIs and four runs scored for West Field (10-4, 6-3). Ella Doxey added a 2-for-3 day with a double and four RBIs. Clair Nessen hit 2 for 3 with three runs batted in. Brinklee Hadley allowed one run on two hits while striking out seven in four innings.

CLEARFIELD 12, WOODS CROSS 0

WOODS CROSS — Clearfield battered Woods Cross (4-9, 3-7 Region 5) for nine runs in the second inning to claim a five-inning region shutout.

Jenna Lloyd and Lyla Leonhardt each totaled two hits and doubled once for Clearfield (10-6, 7-3). Lloyd drove in three runs. Skylar Davis doubled and drove in two. Abbie Hale and Brynn Nicholls also drove in two runs. Emma Dishongh tripled. Lloyd struck out nine and allowed two hits in five innings.

SYRACUSE 23, ROY 4

ROY — Syracuse racked up 13 runs in the sixth for a run-rule, non-region win at Roy.

Brooklyn Sackolwitz led Syracuse (11-5) batting 4 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored, notching four of her team’s 11 hits as Roy committed 10 errors. Oaklee Derrickson batted 2 for 4 and scored three runs.

Megan Johnson had the lone hit, a double, for Roy (0-12).


BOYS SOCCER

FREMONT 2, WEBER 0

PLAIN CITY — Carson VanBeekum scored once in each half to lift Fremont to a region win over Weber (9-3, 2-3 Region 1).

Jace Clark got the shutout in goal for Fremont (8-3, 2-3). Keaton Lane and Justin Daniels tallied assists.

SYRACUSE 2, FARMINGTON 1

FARMINGTON — Wyatt Affleck scored once and assisted another goal to help Syracuse to a road region win at Farmington (3-5, 2-2 Region 1).

Tate Jacobs scored the other goal for Syracuse (7-5, 2-2)

OGDEN 4, SOUTH SUMMIT 1

OGDEN — Ogden netted four times after halftime to remain undefeated, beating South Summit (6-9, 2-7 Region 13).

Matt Browning, Gerardo Esquivel, Parley Gladwell and Francisco Rivas each scored for Ogden (13-0, 9-0). Rivas, Andrew Pierce, Luis Velasco and Adam Jenks tallied one assist each.


BOYS LACROSSE

NORTHRIDGE 13, ROY 4

ROY — Carden Schieb scored twice for Roy in a loss to Northridge in the Region 5 opener for both schools.

Tyler Dickson and Robert Young each netted once for Roy (2-9, 0-1 Region 5).

Northridge (6-3, 1-0) did not report stats.


GIRLS LACROSSE

ROY 12, NORTHRIDGE 7

LAYTON — Sarah Larsen and Elia Ransom each scored three goals but Northridge (3-6, 0-1 Region 5) fell at home to Roy (3-5, 1-0). The Royals did not report stats.
