Box Elder freshman Kennadie Blackmer (15) celebrates with catcher Brooke Richards (00) after closing the first side during a 5A state softball contest against Taylorsville on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Valley Regional Softball Complex.

With April officially in swing, we’ve gathered our list of end-of-March region leaders and Northern Utah standouts to watch as high school softball season plunges into the unknown.

Little under a month into the regular season, we’ve scanned the scorebooks and MaxPreps leaderboards for the following watch list as the regular season steers into region play:

Jazmine Prathan

Syracuse • SS

Prathan leads Region 1 in home runs (6), runs (24), RBI (24), and slugging (1.385) through the Titans’ 8-4 non-region run. Prathan tallied a season-high six RBI vs. Page on March 14 and has managed at least a hit through her last four games.

Savannah Palmatier

Fremont • C/OF/SS

Region 1’s leading base thief with 14 stolen bases, Palmatier checks in with region-highs in on-base percentage (0.721) and at the plate (.718 BA with 28 hits); Despite a 2-10 start by the Silverwolves, Palmatier’s managed two or more hits 10 different times in March.

Serena Roth

Davis • P

Roth is dominating Region 1’s pitching class with 58 total strikeouts, sitting 18 above the next-best strikeout total by Syracuse’s Haydin Giatras (30 K). Roth’s 2.35 ERA ranks 15th in the state; the Dart junior’s region-high 58 strikeouts ranks 25th.

Kennadie Blackmer

Box Elder • P/INF

It’s safe to say Blackmer’s sophomore campaign is sailing on smooth waters. Blackmer leads Region 5 with a 1.57 ERA, 68 strikeouts, 34 RBI, and 11 home runs; Blackmer’s 11 home runs rank 54th nationally.

Kate Wilson

Bear River • P/OF

In the circle, Wilson’s racked up a Region 11-high 133 strikeouts, ranking second in the state and 90th nationally, in 14 appearances. Wilson’s assembled five no-hitters, including an April 2 date with Green Canyon with the Bears winning 15-0 and Wilson reporting seven strikeouts and two walks.

Bella Douglas

Bear River • UTL

Douglas leads Region 11 with 11 home runs, 40 RBI and 28 runs as the region’s leading batter (.592 BA) and slugger (1.429 SLG). Douglas’ 40 RBI rank 49th nationally, with the senior Bear producing three or more RBI through Bear River’s final four March dates.

Jill Wood

Ogden • INF

Wood’s seven home runs and 1.355 slugging percentage lead Region 13, with the latter stat ranking 13th in the state. In 31 at-bats, Wood has 19 RBI and 13 runs on 16 hits; Wood homered a season-high three times vs. East on March 14.

Lexi Hardman
