Area standouts and region standings through April 1

A little under a month into the regular season, we’ve scanned the scorebooks and MaxPreps leader boards for the following watch list as the regular season steers into region play.
END-OF-MARCH PLAYERS TO WATCH
Caleb Wilson
Syracuse • INF/P
Wilson’s .500 batting average and .652 on-base percentage lead Region 1, with the latter ranking fourth in 6A and top 20 in the state. Wilson collected eight RBI and three runs on eight hits. He produced a season-high two RBI and three runs on two hits versus West Field on March 11.
Owen Talbot
Davis • CF
Talbot (.345 BA) leads Region 1 in slugging (.759), home runs (3) and total runs (12) through a 5-4 start for the Darts. Talbot’s three homers, gathered through Davis 2-1 start to the season, rank inside the state’s top 15. The senior claims nine RBI and 12 runs on 10 hits.
Chase Jones
Fremont • P/1B
Jones (2.88 ERA) ranks top 3 amongst 6A pitchers, and leads Region 1 with 20 strikeouts. The Fremont senior is 2-1 with 18 hits, nine runs, seven earned runs, two home runs and a walk allowed through three starts. Jones swings .346 with seven RBI and three runs on nine hits.
Parker Jeppson
Northridge • 3B/OF
Jeppson (.395 BA) leads the Knights, and Region 5, with 16 RBI and 11 runs on 15 hits through Northridge’s 8-3 start. Jeppson has recorded at least four RBI three separate times already — versus Granger (March 11), Weber (March 21) and Syracuse (March 28).
Hudson Taylor
Bonneville • P/1B
Taylor (4.40 ERA) rests atop Region 5 pitchers with a 3-1 record and 28 strikeouts through four starts. At the plate, Taylor’s batting .276 with eight RBI and three runs on eight hits. The senior matched a season-high three RBI versus Ogden on March 28.
Jet Hirschi
Bonneville • CF
Hirschi’s 13 stolen bases, two home runs and .852 slugging percentage are Region 5-highs for the Lakers through 11 games. The senior gathered five RBI and 14 runs on 13 hits thus far. Hirschi produced a season-high three RBI versus Ogden on March 28.
Luke Bauerle
Morgan • C/INF
Baurele (.514 BA) boasts a region-high 14 RBI on 18 hits to begin his junior campaign with the Trojans (8-3, 2-0 Region 13). Baurele’s 17 runs rank inside the state’s top 25, with four registered during Morgan’s two-game sweep of Ben Lomond from March 25-27.
Camron Talbot
Morgan • P/UTL
Talbot is another unavoidable headliner for the Trojans.
The senior All-Area honoree’s 4-0 start is tied with Providence Hall’s Jared Wagner for second in the state. Talbot has allowed nine hits, nine walks, four runs and dealt 20 strikeouts in those four starts. He allowed a season-high of just four hits versus Kearns on March 21.
Cade Becraft
Ben Lomond • 1B/P
Becraft is the bright spot within BL’s 1-7 (0-2 Region 13) start, as the senior leads Region 13, batting .526 with nine RBIs and two homers in 23 plate appearances. Becraft collected six RBI and both his season home runs versus Roy on March 28.
