Prep roundup: Syracuse football tops Farmington in overtime thriller

SYRACUSE — Syracuse High football capped a great first week of the Region 1 slate by stopping a Farmington two-point conversion attempt to claim a 38-37 overtime win Friday at home in a game neither team led by more than seven points.

With a 49-yard make to his name already, Easton Choate lined up for a 56-yard field goal with the game tied 31-31 but Syracuse mishandled the snap and time expired on regulation.

AJ DeHorney ran in his third touchdown of the night for Syracuse in the first series of overtime. Travis Hoopes answered with his third touchdown for Farmington, but the Titans stopped the two-point attempt for their fourth straight win.

Ledger Wight scored a 78-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and tossed a 9-yard touchdown to Tanner Merrill in the third quarter to help lead Syracuse (4-2, 1-0 Region 1). DeHorney scored on runs of 3 and 10 yards in regulation, the final giving the Titans a 31-24 lead in the fourth quarter.

Hoopes scored touchdowns of 3 and 14 yards in regulation for Farmington (1-5, 0-1). Jaxon Beynon booted a 50-yard field goal in the third quarter.

BOX ELDER 49, CLEARFIELD 7

BRIGHAM CITY — Tyeson Hansen and Carter Buchanan each scored two touchdowns to lead Box Elder past Clearfield.

Hansen opened the scoring on a 3-yard run midway through the first quarter for Box Elder (3-3, 1-2 Region 5), and added a 6-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Buchanan scored on a 3-yard quarterback keeper to give the Bees a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter. Buchanan also returned an interception 54 yards for a 28-7 third-quarter lead.

Kadyn Reyes hit Maddox Earnest for a 10-yard touchdown pass to give BE a 21-0 lead. Easton Beauregard scored on a 4-yard dive with 11:15 left in the game. The Bees capped the scoring with 4:37 left when Oaklin Martin tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mason Jeppsen.

Landon Hittle scored for Clearfield (1-5, 0-3) on a 2-yard scamper to make the score 21-7 with 1:20 left in the first half.

MORGAN 49, JUAN DIEGO 0

DRAPER — Lincoln Gilson scored three touchdowns and Morgan got a shutout win at Juan Diego (2-4, 0-1 3A North) to remain unbeaten and open region play

Gilson opened the scoring with a 3-yard run for Morgan (6-0, 1-0). Drew Korth scored on a 1-yard dive late in the first quarter, then Gilson gave Morgan a 21-0 lead on a 3-yard scamper with 9:07 left in the second quarter. Gilson caught a 12-yard pass from Beck Sheffield for a 28-0 lead with 33 seconds left in the first half.

Korth scored on a 2-yard dive for a 35-0 lead early in the third quarter. Cade Randall tossed touchdown passes of 27 yards to Boston Zack in the third quarter and 52 yards to Ben Russel to cap the scoring with 9:14 left in the game.

ST. JOSEPH 40, WATERSPRINGS-ID 36

IDAHO FALLS, ID — Kayden Huss scored three touchdowns, including a game-winning, 57-yard run with 1:22 left, to lead St. Joseph to a win at Watersprings (Idaho).

Gunner Windsor opened the scoring for St. Joseph (4-1) on a 10-yard run. Jacob Scehnet returned an interception 52 yards for a pick-six, then Huss scored on a 30-yard run, giving the Jayhawks a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Watersprings responded with three third-quarter touchdowns to take a 24-20 lead. Scehnet scored on a 43-yard run to give St. Joseph a 27-24 lead, then Watersprings scored to take a 30-27 lead. Huss added a 15-yard run for a 33-30 lead.

Watersprings scored on a 35-yard run to take a 36-33 lead with 4:22 left in the game, setting the stage for Huss.

GRANTSVILLE 48, BEN LOMOND 13

OGDEN — Jaxon Funk scored on a 58-yard run in the third quarter and a 10-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter for all the Ben Lomond (0-6, 0-1 Region 13) points in a home loss to Grantsville (5-1, 1-0).

BOUNTIFUL 42, NORTHRIDGE 14

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful (5-1, 2-1 Region 5) built a 35-0 lead at halftime and handed Northridge its first loss.

Northridge (5-1, 2-1) scored second-hald touchdowns on a pass from Trey Nye to Chase Harris, and a 1-yard Andrew Ortiz run, according to Deseret News reporting. Northridge did not report stats Friday night.

RIDGELINE 42, BEAR RIVER 6

GARLAND — Backup quarterback Preston Wilkinson threw a 12-yard pass touchdown to Kash Avery with 1:11 left in the game for the only Bear River (1-5, 0-2 Region 11) points in a home region loss to Ridgeline (6-0, 2-0).

SYRACUSE — Abby Affleck scored the lone goal for Syracuse (11-2, 5-1 Region 1) as the Titans fell at home Thursday to Farmington (6-5, 3-3).

SYRACUSE — Syracuse downed Farmington (5-8, 2-2 Region 1) Thursday in region play. Set scores were 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21.

Brinley Barkdull led Syracuse (8-3, 2-1 Region 1) with 12 kills and Emily Kenison added 11. Karlie Hamblin tallied 23 digs. Miyah Lish and McKinley Barkdull each served six aces.

DRAPER APA 3, ST. JOSEPH 2

DRAPER — St. Joseph fell in five sets at Draper APA (14-4, 5-0 Region 17) Thursday. Set scores were 19-25, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-8.

Lizzie Randall led St. Joseph (9-6, 4-1) with nine kills, 19 assists, and 17 digs. Libero Kenzie Hernandez had 17 digs and eight assists.
