Prep football roundup: Davis scores 80 points, Syracuse gets in win column
KAYSVILLE — Tradon Bessinger threw six touchdowns on eight pass completions in the first half and Davis High football beat up Kearns 80-0 on Friday night after leading 59-0 at halftime.
Bessinger threw for 210 yards to lead Davis (3-1). Bode Sparrow hauled in two touchdowns (80 and 8 yards), Tyson Baggett had two TDs (37 and 50 yards), and Easton Frasure (6 yards) and Ryder Stringham (1 yard) also had TD receptions.
Isaac Morrison had a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown and grabbed an interception on defense. Konner Gallup returned a fumble for a 9-yard scoop and score, forced by Noah Whitesides.
Jaxton Itaaehau added a 57-yard rushing touchdown, Johnny Parker scored on a QB keeper from 23 yards out, and Charlie Shupe added a 23-yard rushing touchdown. Finn Garff booted a 42-yard field goal.
Davis outgained Kearns 415-91 and won the turnover battle 5-0. Ethan Lockwood had six tackles and Jake Rigby had two of the team’s seven tackles for loss.
SYRACUSE 34, COPPER HILLS 20
WEST JORDAN — Copper Hills took a 20-13 lead with 4:15 left in the third quarter before Syracuse scored three unanswered touchdowns to win.
Ryker Van Komen scored on a 26-yard run and Easton Choate’s PAT tied the game at 20-20 with 3:46 left in the third quarter. Hoyt Pula scored the eventual game-winner on a 1-yard plunge with 3:17 left in the game, and Ledger Wight added an insurance touchdown on a 34-yard run with 2:33 left.
Choate booted a 43-yard field goal on the first Syracuse (2-2) drive to give the Titans a 3-0 lead. Copper Hills took a 7-3 lead on a touchdown pass. AJ DeHorney scored on a 3-yard run to give Syracuse a 10-7 lead with 6:36 left in the second quarter.
Copper Hills took a 14-10 lead with 1:05 left in the half, then Choate added a 22-yard field goal as the first half clock expired to make the score 14-13.
LAYTON 34, TAYLORSVILLE 14
TAYLORSVILLE — Layton led 34-6 after three quarters in a non-region road win.
Madden Sargent threw 16 of 36 for 265 yards and two touchdowns for Layton (3-1). Malu Lumpkins hauled in eight catches for 111 yards, Vann Sandoval caught four balls for 75 yards and Teiyon Halbasch had four for 69 yards.

OGDEN — St. Joseph swept Rich on Friday by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-8.
Lizzie Randall had 15 kills, seven assists, seven digs and four aces to lead St. Joseph (6-5). Juliana Netherton added 14 assists, five kills, five digs and two aces. Kenzie Hernandez tallied 11 digs.
