Prep football roundup: Box Elder, Weber, Davis cap region slates with wins

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Ethan Barber kicked a 39-yard field goal with 2:04 left in the game to lift Box Elder High football to a 30-28 region win Wednesday at Bonneville.

Kadyn Reyes threw two touchdown passes to Carter Buchanan for Box Elder (4-6, 2-5 Region 5). The first Reyes-to-Buchanan scoring strike gave Box Elder a 20-7 lead midway through the second quarter. Their second touchdown came on a 22-yard pass to cut the Bonneville lead to 28-27 late in the third quarter.

Jay Macias opened the scoring with a 26-yard touchdown run at the 4:41 mark of the first quarter. Buchanan gave the Bees a 13-0 lead on a 1-yard dive with 27 seconds left in the first quarter.

Cole Lueders threw four touchdown passes — three to Ashton Spackman — for Bonneville (3-7, 3-4). Lueders hit Spackman from 30 yards out, found Reese Cantwell for a 20-yard touchdown, and a 4-yard scoring strike to Spackman to forge a 20-20 tie at halftime.

Cole Lueders connected with Spackman again, for a 59-yard pitch-and-catch, to give the Lakers a 28-20 lead at the 10:11 mark in the third quarter.

WEBER 56, LAYTON 12

LAYTON — Crew Cacciacarne threw five touchdown passes and Brock Dean scored four times as Weber blasted Layton.

Cacciacarne connected with Dean for three scores for Weber (6-4, 2-3 Region 1). The pair opened the scoring with a 53-yard pitch-and-catch. Dean added touchdown catches of 73 and 28 yards, and returned an interception 27 yards for a pick-six.

Dyson Parker scored on a 4-yard run in the first quarter, on a Cacciacarne 1-yard pass in the second quarter and on a 27-yard run in the third quarter. Tyson Higgs caught a 1-yard Cacciacarne scoring strike in the second quarter.

Ryan Wensel kicked two 32-yard field goals for Layton (4-6, 0-5). Madden Sargent connected with Malu Lumpkins for a 2-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring.

For Layton, Sargent completed 17 of 32 passes for 143 yards, one score and one interception. Wensel rushed six times for 24 yards. Teiyon Halbasch had 62 yards on seven receptions.

DAVIS 49, SYRACUSE 10

SYRACUSE — Tradon Bessinger passed for three touchdowns and ran for two as Davis ran away from Syracuse.

Owen Talbot opened the scoring with an 11-yard run for Davis (7-3, 3-2 Region 1). Bessinger connected with Bode Sparrow for two touchdowns, from 17 and 21 yards out. Bessinger tossed a 17-yard scoring strike to Jaxton Itaaheau to put Davis up 31-3 midway through the second quarter.

Juni Moala returned an interception 48 yards to paydirt in the third quarter. Bessenger scored on runs of 6 and 13 yards in the third quarter.

Easton Choate converted a 42-yard field goal for Syracuse (5-5, 2-3) in the second quarter. Ledger Wight tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to AJ DeHorney in the third quarter.

Bessenger completed 17 of 22 passes for 258 yards and rushed for 32 yards on six attempts. Talbot had 125 rushing yards on 16 carries. Itaaheau totaled six catches for 113 yards, and Sparrow added 70 yards on four catches.

Wight went 9 of 24 passing for 100 yards and three interceptions for Layton, while adding 83 rushing yards on 16 rushes. Tanner Merrill had four catches for 48 yards.

RIDGELINE 45, WEST FIELD 7

MILLVILLE — Tyce Abbott connected with Boston Kap on a 23-yard pass for the last points of the game as

West Field (1-9, 1-5 Region 11) fell at Ridgeline (10-0, 6-0).
