MORGAN — The scoreboard might’ve shorted out just two drives into the night, but Morgan had already claimed a two-score lead and had much more in store for Ogden in a 62-0 late-season cruise on Friday night.

A Vincent Apodaca-less Ogden (5-4, 1-3 3A North) endured an unanswered 55-point gut punch by the Trojans (9-0, 4-0) and the rolling clock that followed in the second half.

Friday’s shutout marks the ninth consecutive win for the Trojans, with its hopes for a 3A North title contingent on next week’s trip to Union.

Cooking with senior Beck Sheffield’s pass game early, Morgan lept to a 28-0 lead — through electrical flickers and all — after two defensive stops and a fumble recovery that Bracken Saunders carried deep into Ogden territory.

Morgan senior safety Ryler Jorgensen blew the doors open with a pick-six drawn off Ogden’s Keen Crowther with 7:29 to go in the half.

Ogden junior Harrison Hoskins (21) returns the ball during a game vs. Morgan Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, in Morgan.

Sheffield remained under center for most of the second quarter but it was backup Cade Randall who built on the momentum late with a 15-yard pass to Drew Korth.

Randall’s touchdown pass, and two scores on the ground between Lincoln Gilson and Krew Galbraith, made for the insurmountable halftime advantage.

Ogden turned to freshman Emmett Rector at quarterback in the third quarter with the Tigers getting multiple scoring opportunities after rendering Morgan’s offense silent throughout the entire second half.

Late in the fourth quarter, Synic Harvey set Ogden up for one such chance, hauling in a Rector pass near the Trojans’ 30-yard line. But Rector fumbled a snap just a few plays later and Morgan sophomore Cael Edgington scooped up the loose ball and hauled it 80 yards to the end zone during the game’s waning minutes.

With Friday’s loss, Ogden added its third consecutive defeat to the schedule with Morgan joining region foes Grantsville and Juan Diego in the Tigers’ woes. Apodaca (concussion protocol) is expected to return for next week’s rivalry game, the senior captain told the Standard-Examiner.

GREEN CANYON 49, BEAR RIVER 15

GARLAND — Bear River scored on two touchdown passes in a home region loss to Green Canyon.

Jaxson Theurer threw a bomb to a wide-open Corver Riley, who turned it into a 56-yard score to get Bear River (2-7, 1-4 Region 11) on the board and cut the Green Canyon (6-2, 3-2) lead to 28-8 with 5:51 left in the first half.

Preston Wilkensen connected with Tatum Stephens for a 47-yard touchdown to cap the scoring with 44 seconds left in the game.

SMITHFIELD — West Field scored the final 10 points of the game in a road loss to Sky View (6-3, 4-1 Region 11).
