Morgan head volleyball coach Liz Wiscombe looks on during a home match vs. Ogden Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, in Morgan.

OREM — The weekend saw No. 4 seed Morgan High girls volleyball fall shy of the 3A state championship, shutout in three sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-11) to top seed Canyon View in the semifinal round Saturday at Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center.

Canyon View went on to defeat No. 6 Richfield in four sets for the state championship.

The Trojans (17-4) won four consecutive matches, including postseason victories over No. 13 Manti and No. 5 Emery, en route to the semifinals.

In the third-place match, Morgan gave two sets to No. 2 North Sanpete to finish the tournament fourth overall.

Further down the 3A bracket, No. 11 Ogden couldn’t escape the second round in a three-set shutout to No. 6 Richfield (25-16, 25-17, 25-23). With a loss, the Tigers (12-17) missed the consolation bracket and ended the season winning two of their last five.

In the 2A playoff, No. 9 San Juan swept No. 8 St. Joseph (23-8) from the board in the second round at Snow College. San Juan ended its run shortly after, falling to eventual champion and top seed North Sevier in the quarterfinals.
