PLAIN CITY — By no means does Fremont girls basketball coach Lisa Dalebout believe her team’s performing at a perfect level, but her Silverwolves are certainly on an exciting track as the calendar flips into the new year.

If surpassing last year’s 13 total wins is the Silverwolves’ resolution for 2025, they inched another game closer by adding their 10th of the season with a 59-18 rout over visiting East High on Tuesday morning.

Racing to a 19-point lead by halftime, Fremont (10-1) dominated both ends of the floor against a shorthanded Leopards (2-8) team.

Sophomore Abigail Christensen led Fremont with 10 total points, but several Silverwolves — senior Avary Post (9 points), junior Maya Jensen (8 points), junior Lily Hall (8 points) and sophomore Brynn Wadman (8 points) — flirted with double-digit performances in sharing the wealth.

Leading Fremont with roughly 12 points per game after Tuesday, Christensen said the biggest factor stringing together her team’s mixed bag of talent is communication. The 6-foot-2 sophomore hears Dalebout stressing dialogue and “finding ways to contribute” during every practice.

“(Dalebout) always tells us to talk,” Christensen said. “In drills when we’re not talking, she’s right there telling us we need to talk to one another. … She’s really good at figuring out what we’re struggling with.”

Hall and sophomore Olivia Surrage forced East’s uncomfortable shots from the tipoff, with Leopards senior point guard Ashley Mendez limited in her search for an answer to the Silverwolves’ early success from the field.

Fremont penciled in just two 3-point baskets, the first by Post and the second by sophomore Mia McArthur, during the first half. Hall’s 8 first-half points led the Silverwolves into halftime sitting on a comfortable 29-9 advantage; Jaylah Dulin led East with 4 points at the break.

Dalebout felt Fremont returned to the third quarter with more authority, as her Silverwolves raced out to a 7-0 start and mounted a 30-point lead by the fourth quarter. Post added two 3s to her stat line in the third quarter alone.

“You try really hard to play your basketball and not your opponent’s basketball,” Dalebout said.

All 8 of Wadman’s points came in the fourth quarter and sophomore Jersie Slater added a 3-pointer to the mix as Fremont ran away with their 10th win of the season.

Asked about her younger teammates, Post said the opportunity to showcase their potential, even in runaway games, can’t be understated.

“They’re all willing to step up,” Post said. “Even if they’re not a senior or in that role, they all step up and are willing to lead this team.”

Fremont now looks ahead with two more road dates at Cyrpus (Jan. 3) and Taylorsville (Jan. 7) before opening region play.

While praising this Fremont team’s preseason chemistry, Dalebout acknowledged they have a ways to go before they can claim themselves to be a cohesive unit. Still, she also believes there’s no shortage of heart on the floor right now.

“The thing that makes this team unique is that they really care about each other,” Dalebout said.

Dalebout continued:

“They really do want each other to succeed, and sometimes within teams you get intercompetition, and they don’t do that. … When one player has a good game, there’s genuine happiness for that girl. … With their age, I honestly think they just need more experience on how to click more. Cleaner execution on both ends of the floor is something we need to get better at.”
