Prep basketball roundup: Weber girls beat Roy, reach 7-0; Layton boys trounce Lone Peak

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber High girls basketball outscored Roy 25-8 across the second and third quarters on the way to a 51-35 home win Tuesday night.

Rylee Jugler posted a double-double for Weber (7-0) with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Abby Sayer tallied 14 points and Logyn Howell added 10. Bradey Schiffman had 12 boards and Katelyn Poulsen swiped four steals.

Rhianna May led Roy (2-3) with 14 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Jazzy Prieto scored eight points. Ariana Strain hauled in seven rebounds.

SYRACUSE 44, WESTLAKE 35

SYRACUSE — Syracuse won every quarter to beat Westlake at home.

Maylee Anderson and Rachel McBride each scored 10 points to lead Syracuse (5-0). Karsyn Visser tallied eight points while Kyleigh Nielson and Aubri Stoker added six points apiece.

BEAR RIVER 46, SOUTH SUMMIT 44

GARLAND — Bear River shot 3 of 6 from the free-throw line in the last minute, just enough to hold off South Summit for a home win.

Aubree Fry led Bear River (1-6) with 13 points. Saydee Pebley added 11 points and Shelby Wilkinson scored eight.

ST. JOSEPH 50, AM LEADERSHIP 36

SPANISH FORK — Katelyn Martinez scored a game-high 16 points to lead St. Joseph to a win at American Leadership (5-1, 0-1 Region 17) to open region play.

Lizzie Randall and Mimi Dewitte each scored nine points for St. Joseph (2-3, 1-0) and Eliza Berg added eight.

STANSBURY 55, OGDEN 51

OGDEN — Stansbury led 18-6 after the first quarter and Ogden couldn’t rally all the way back.

Lily Gonzalez, Salote Tonga and Jill Wood each scored 10 points for Ogden (5-3).

Weber 70, Ogden 42: Weber won the first quarter 22-4 and didn’t look back in a Burchell Classic game Saturday. Avery Shupe led Weber with 20 points on four 3-pointers. Logyn Howell scored 11 points and Rylee Jugler added nine. For Ogden, Salote Tonga led with 12 points and Jill Wood added 11.

Syracuse 48, Morgan 39: Syracuse used a 17-8 fourth quarter to pull away from host Morgan to win the Morgan Winter Classic on Saturday. Kyleigh Nelson led Syracuse with 16 points and Olivia Sorenson scored 10. Eva Birkeland netted 11 points to lead Morgan.

Layton Christian 52, Clearfield 42: Clearfield claimed a 21-5 advantage in the second quarter and LCA answered with a 16-2 fourth to claim a win Saturday in the Burchell Classic. Fabiana Lopez scored 17 points with five steals, and Ava Smith totaled 11 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four blocks for LCA.

BOYS BASKETBALL

LAYTON 72, LONE PEAK 57

ALPINE — Sam Romer scored a game-high 25 points to lead Layton to a comfortable win at Lone Peak.

Chase Randall tallied 21 points with four 3-pointers for Layton (5-0). Jonah Fulmer added 10 points and Joshua Checketts netted nine.

CLEARFIELD 56, WEST FIELD 54 (OT)

TAYLOR — Jaxson Bishop scored a game-high 21 points on seven 3-pointers to lead Clearfield to an overtime road win at West Field.

Michael Creel tallied 10 points for Clearfield (2-3). Bode Davis scored nine.

Jordan Harrison led West Field (3-3) with 13 points. Drew Faddis and Jaxon Slaugh each scored 10 points.

WEBER 73, BOX ELDER 62

BRIGHAM CITY — Weber held Box Elder to five second-quarter points on the way to a road win.

Ben Olpin led all scorers with 24 points and five 3-pointers for Weber (3-3). Luke Bingham added 15 points, Brandon Crockett tallied 12 and Derik Bowden scored 10.

McKay Deem hit six 3-pointers for 18 points to pace Box Elder (0-6). Carter Buchanan added 15 points, Kason Anderson tallied 12 points and Mayson Jeppsen scored eight.

GUNNISON VALLEY 63, ST. JOSEPH 55

OGDEN — St. Joseph led 33-32 at the half but couldn’t hold off Gunnison Valley after the break in a home loss Monday.

Gavin Wolf led St. Joseph (3-5) with 16 points. Gunner Windsor added 15 points and Gavin Donovan scored 11.

Ben Lomond 79, Providence Hall 68: Jaerdan Van Beekum made six 3s for 31 points and Ben Lomond poured in 11 3-pointers to outpace Providence Hall on Saturday. Deshawn Holland added 19 points and six rebounds, and Makale Aytch totaled 11 points, seven assists and five steals.

Layton Christian 61, Viewmont 55: Tyrin Jones scored 20 points to lead LCA over Viewmont. Melchi Egbeyemi and Alan Gballou each added nine points. Drez Jensen scored 21 points on five 3-pointers for Viewmont.
