A youth hockey team brought home hardware in what is believed to be historic fashion.

The Ogden Jr. Mustangs competed in USA Hockey’s Youth Tier II national championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The 14U squad finished on top.

The Jr. Mustangs defeated the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights 3-1 on April 6. Head coach Jeff Krieger told USA Hockey it is his understanding this title is the first youth hockey national title in Utah’s history.

Colton Harding scored to put Ogden ahead 1-0 just before the end of the second period.

After Vegas tied things early in the third, Krew Krieger scored what proved to be the winning goal. Krew Krieger scored 16 goals and totaled 21 points as the tournament’s leading scorer.

Jahkai Bennett scored an empty-net goal for the final 3-1 tally.

“This is what we worked for all season, everybody deserved it, we just got to take it home,” Krew Krieger said in a story posted to usahockey.com. “We did everything we could all season, we had a great season. I love these guys, they did everything for me. It’s awesome.”
