OGDEN — Crews from the Ogden City Fire Department and Weber Fire District responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Second Street on Thursday morning, successfully containing the blaze to the main level of the single-family home.
According to a press release, the call came in at approximately 9:41 a.m., prompting a rapid response. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered visible smoke and flames coming from the garage.
“We were out and about in the area when the fire came in, so we arrived on scene quickly. Probably within two minutes of the fire coming in, we had somebody on scene,” Ogden City Deputy Fire Chief Mike Slater told the Standard-Examiner.
Firefighters worked “aggressively” to contain the fire to the home, per the release. A total of 22 personnel responded, including four engines, an ambulance, a paramedic truck and multiple command staff.
Slater confirmed that all of the home’s residents were cleared from the structure. The local Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
“We had crews that were just efficient, and they just tackled the thing,” Slater said. “We did a fantastic job getting after it and making sure that it didn’t progress anywhere outside of that home.”
The Ogden Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Initial damage is estimated at approximately $300,000.
