ROY — A man who allegedly fired upon officers from the Roy City Police Department after fleeing an attempted traffic stop died in the hospital Tuesday morning due to undisclosed injuries.

The man, identified by Sgt. Josh Taylor as 46-year-old Jeremy Lundgreen, was the suspect wanted in an Internet Crimes Against Children case for enticing a minor, according to a press release from the department.

Lundgreen was described as having been “initially cooperative” after police stopped his vehicle at around 7:15 p.m. Aug. 17 but ultimately decided to flee, per the release. He was later located near 5650 S. 2775 West in Roy.

According to the release, Lundgreen “immediately confronted officers with a firearm and began firing at them” when they made contact with him. The release noted that a “sustained fire fight” occurred over the next several minutes, during which officers returned fire, “eventually striking the suspect.”

He subsequently was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment. Taylor told the Standard-Examiner that, to his knowledge, there were no other physical injuries resulting from the shootout. He also noted that an unspecified level of property damage occurred during the exchange.

As a result of the incident, the Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was activated and the investigation turned over to the Weber County Attorney’s Office, Roy police said. The officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of said investigation.

Those officers were still on leave as of Thursday night, according to Taylor.
