Farmington grocery store target of bomb threat, nothing found

FARMINGTON — Smith’s Grocery Store in Farmington received a bomb threat on Friday, prompting the evacuation of the store and a search of the locale, the Farmington Police Department said in a press release.

No bomb was found. Following “an extensive search,” the statement said, “police have determined the store to be safe.”

The threat was called in to Smith’s at 1316 N. U.S. 89 around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, prompting an immediate response from police, firefighters and other agencies. “Store patrons and employees were evacuated and investigative efforts were initiated. Bomb detection K9 teams from Utah Highway Patrol and (Utah Transit Authority) police were brought in to ensure there was not a device,” said the statement.

The store was deemed safe at 4:08 p.m. and operations at the grocery store resumed.

Farmington police are teaming with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Statewide Information and Analysis Center to investigate. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Farmington Police Department at 801-451-5453.
