SALT LAKE CITY — A pawn shop that sold a shotgun to a man who killed five people and wounded four others at Salt Lake City’s Trolley Square mall in 2007 has settled lawsuits from two of the survivors.

Settlement terms were not disclosed for Carolyn Tuft, who was shot multiple times, and Stacy Hanson, who was left a paraplegic.

They accused Sportsman’s Fast Cash of selling 18-year-old Sulejman Talovic (SOO-luh-mun, TAHL-a-vic) a type a shotgun that’s illegal for anyone under 21 to buy.

The 12-gauge shotgun was equipped with a pistol grip for easier firing instead of a standard shoulder stock.

Sportsman’s Fast Cash clerk Westley Wayne Hill was originally charged with unlawful transfer of a firearm. He settled the criminal charge by paying a $500 fine for a paperwork violation. Authorities say he failed to record that Talovic was a resident alien from Bosnia.

Talovic died in a shootout with police.
