Letter: Letter to Congressman Blake Moore, Utah – District 1

Jan 29, 2025

Mr. Moore: Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and hopefully respond in kind.

First of all, we have been registered Republicans most our life and have voted for you in past elections. We have 5 girls and 8 grand kids. Three of our family members serve in the Military with a few others now retired from the Police force in CA. We have many friends and neighbors here in your district mostly here in Weber County.

We have all recently watched as President Trump just pardoned 1500+ convicted rioters from the failed Jan 6th insurrection attempt after he lost the election to Biden back in 2021. A few of our kids have been learning about US History with emphasis on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution plus amendments. Our kids in particular would like your help in understanding why President Trump pardoned these rioters even after they we’re convicted by the courts and watching all the videos on the news of the violence including breaking in to the capital building and assaulting and beating the Police Officers including stun guns, pepper / bear spraying, beatings etc. resulting in ~140 Police Officers hospitalized and 5 later died.

Our kids have reached out to their adult relatives in the military and police force and they refrain from discussing it too much and instead suggest they watch the brief speech from that night by Senator Mitch McConnell. Not much help though.

As our congressman here in Utah’s District 1, we are asking for your help as our elected representative in understanding how and why these rioters can be pardoned after being convicted of participating in an Insurrection attempt when in conflict of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. I am also talking with our school administrators to have you come talk at their school and address this with the students during one of their monthly rallies.

Thank you again, and we will watch for your response in the coming days.
