Letter: Ogden failing to ensure development oversight

Jan 18, 2025

As Ogden City moves forward with downtown revitalization, oversight should be given to existing unsolved development problems.

The City donated land to developers for the Towns on 24th project, a family-friendly community; however, residents of the newly constructed homes have been dealing with squatters living in their homes and positive meth tests.

The project developer is refusing to work with homeowners to compensate for security failures, and in fact, responded to the complaint by raising HOA fees.

With homeowners already on edge, on January 14th the City discussed a home from the chronically homeless just a block away on Madison and 23rd.

While the City does have a responsibility to care for the most vulnerable populations, it has an equal obligation to provide safe and secure housing for young, upcoming families.

It also has responsibility for oversight and follow-up on projects where the City has a vested interest.
