Letter: Not impressed with Blake Moore during town hall
My wife and I called into Rep. Blake Moore’s “tele town hall” on Feb 25. If you did not have time or had other reasons for not attending, no worries. You did not miss much. He did what folks who served in the military used to call “tap dancing.” However, he did say three things that struck us:
- When asked, he admitted that Ukraine was not the aggressor in this war, Russia was. Oh, really?! Trump and MAGA have been saying the opposite. Why do we get Moore’s honest opinion in a very likely sparsely attended tele town hall and not as a headline in the news? Or even on any of the talk or news shows? Maybe afraid of what Trump or MAGA might do to him? Maybe afraid Musk would pay millions to primary him?
- Several callers questioned how Congress could allow DOGE to ruin careers, families, surrounding economies with their slash and burn approach? His answer was that he is co-chair of a House DOGE caucus and he disagrees with some of their approach. He actually told a caller he believes that a more surgical, studied response would be better. He mentioned that we are in the top of states with our number of federal civil servants. We have Hill AFB, IRS, Forest Service, etc. Let’s wait and see is basically his response. If he is the co-chair of a caucus overseeing DOGE, why doesn’t it put a halt this disaster? They are Congress! They control the purse. Already, irreparable damage has occurred. It can’t be undone. Yes, we have to control costs, stop fraud, etc. But since Trump fired all the Inspectors General, who can look into that? Congress can, but NO! Let chainsaw wielding Musk do their job.
- The one thing my wife and I agreed with was his statement that demonizing civil servants, as Musk and Trump have done, is inappropriate and the wrong approach.
We were not impressed.
