Letter: Utah GOP should reconsider attack on public workers
It is hard to understand why the Utah Republican Party has declared war against Utah’s public workers. Police, firefighters, teachers and other public workers are being threatened for speaking out about the needs of their professions. A member of the State School Board who is a career educator and also a State Representative from Jordon feels that telling public workers to shut up or lose their State retirement is a way to improve conditions for our state.
The bill passed the House 42 to 32 on Jan. 27th. Hopefully, the House will reconsider the bill and the Senate will realize this is not a good move for our state. Gov. Cox wants Utah to build, build, build. However, this is not building, but tearing down progress that has taken years for our public workers to achieve.
