Letter: Flag should represent what’s important to Utah

Sep 24, 2024

I thought that I’d write to tell you my true thoughts & feelings about the new Utah flag. We’re not at war so who cares if you can recognize it from a distance or even 20 miles away? The new flag doesn’t have our nation’s flag or bird on it. Also the new flag doesn’t have when Utah was found on it.

If you haven’t noticed our mountains aren’t white. Besides what child is going to recognize what the white hills on the new flag are supposed to be? Finally what’s the purpose of one white star? Shouldn’t there be a honeybee? What’s a beehive without a honeybee? By the way the 6 arrows in the eagle’s talons denote the power of peace & war.

Our fore-fathers designed it not them. If it wouldn’t take me so long to draw it so you can see it I would. I think the Utah flag should be 1/2 dark blue with a full moon & at least 25 stars in the sky. And just like in a painting fade from light blue to dark blue from left to right with a full moon. Have a wolf howling at the moon.

On the left of the flag have the SLC temple on a hill. And a pair of golden bells suspended over the temple to represent marriage. Then have an eagle soaring in the sky by the temple to show us freedom off of the temple’s left side. Off of the left of the temple would be a blossom tree with a beehive hanging from it. And snow capped mountains in the background. An olive branch above the beehive with a bee at each end of the branch. And have an ox pulled wagon train at the bottom right walking uphill along a trail. Those things will represent what Utah is all about. And if you don’t want something that represents what Utah is really about then keep our new trashy looking flag that not many people wanted in the 1st place. But they said what the heck can we do about it now. That’s why I’m writing you now.
