Letter: Van Wagoner a beacon of light for Weber County

Oct 25, 2024

My name is Marissa Lovingfoss and I’ve known Steve Van Wagoner for nearly 4yrs. My family and I moved here not knowing anyone, so I was determined to build community. I joined my catholic church and Ogden Soccer.

After a year of participating in Ogden soccer Steve invited me to become a Director. I was hesitant but one of Steve’s superpowers is seeing people’s potential before they know it. He saw me in that position before I ever did and I am grateful for it.

I’ve also figured out where Steve’s super power comes from. Steve works, plays and lives in this community. He bridges gaps and engages people with his listening, asking and doing.

Ogden Soccer began small but in that small group leading the charge was a Beacon of Light, Hope, Inspiration and Guidance. Steve fostered hope in that group, inspired those around him building more support and provided guidance during difficulties. From 134 players, Ogden Soccer now serves nearly 1,000 local children.

Steve’s humble & approachable self gives him the ability to converse with all walks of life. During his campaign he has participated in many events from debates to local parades. His overall love for the community has been seen while eating lunch at the senior center, walking behind his own float at the Roy Days parade shaking hands with families and visiting the farmers market supporting local businesses. He’s asking the people what they need. He’s listening to what they say. He is ready to implement.

Steve Van Wagoner is a virtuous man full of courage, determination, endurance and perseverance. With our support he can be Weber County’s Beacon of Light.
