Letter: Gov. Spencer Cox is a Utah energy champion

Oct 23, 2024

As a young conservative Utahn, I am proud to support Spencer Cox for governor.

From livestock producers to weekend hikers, Utahns across the state know that environmental stewardship is crucial to our way of life. Young conservatives like me care about issues like climate change and conservation, and we want practical, balanced solutions. This election is the time to elect candidates ready to lead on these issues.

Governor Cox has shown that conservative principles are the best foundation for stewardship. He champions priorities like permitting reform, nuclear energy, American energy dominance, and natural resource stewardship. His continued leadership is needed in the climate space.

Governor Cox has a proven policy record on these ideas, particularly in clean energy abundance and Great Salt Lake conservation. His recently-announced Operation Gigawatt will ensure that electricity will remain affordable in Utah by prioritizing clean, reliable energy expansion, including nuclear and geothermal. He has also advanced market-based Great Salt Lake conservation policy, and he is dedicated to conserving this critical resource.

To be sure, Governor Cox and I have disagreements, but his dedication to disagreeing better is exactly what our state and country needs in this tense political moment. He also has a history of publicly apologizing when he makes a mistake, a virtue sorely lacking in many of our national political leaders.

Governor Cox’s strong character and conservative policy show that he is equipped to lead Utah for another term. Unlike his opponents who are quick to lob cheap criticism, Governor Cox has a strong record from the arena. As a conservative environmentalist, I am proud to support Spencer Cox for governor, and I implore other like-minded Utahns to do the same.
