Letter: Where has the Republican Party’s moral fiber gone?

Oct 22, 2024

Almost 8 years ago former and now convicted felon Donald J. Trump put his hand on the bible and raised the other to swear an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Four years later when he was running for re-election and found out that he lost, he wanted to terminate that same constitution he swore to uphold, preserve, protect, and defend. And if that wasn’t enough, he incited and instigated an insurgency of our capitol in an attempt to overturn the certification of a new president in the 2020 presidential election. Today he, Trump who is running to get elected back to the presidency and despite being convicted of 34 felonies, and having three other indictments to answer too, he is the republican nominee to represent that political party in a few weeks. What I can’t understand is, where has the moral fiber of the republican party gone to and why is the leadership so spineless not to stand up to him as they should? The late and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, “If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.”
