Letter: How could Latter-day Saints vote for Trump?
How could people of my faith, members of the LDS Church, support a man so vile that, among other behaviors, he would simulate a sex act at a rally attended by thousands and viewed by millions? How does one explain to their children a vote for such a person?
How do members of my faith endorse a candidate whose actions and rhetoric indicate a willingness to violate the Constitution of the United States? Donald Trump has interfered in an election and in the peaceful transition of power. He has called for civilian reprisals and investigations, attacked the media and free speech, supported the Insurrection Act, and suggested the use of the military against Americans within the country’s borders.
In 1840, Joseph Smith, founder of the LDS Church, prophesied that there would come a time when the Constitution would “hang by a thread.” What he didn’t tell us was that members of the faith would be holding the scissors.
