Letter: Don’t buy the con or the con artist!

Dec 28, 2024

Rebuttal to letter to the editor 18 December 2024 titled “Hunter Biden’s presidential pardon”. The author says of the pardon, “this practice is an insult to the citizens of this country. Justice should be served equally to all including those who have friends in high places. This practice is a mockery of justice and clearly illustrates how corrupt our government has become.” Republicans have said the pardon shows evidence of corruption among democratic politicians and the Biden administration as a whole.

Where was the outrage of pardons from Trump for Michael Flynn, guilty to lying to the FBI into Russian interference in the 2016 election (Yes, Russian interference in 2016 election was not a hoax! See Mueller Report and Senate Intelligence Committee report on Russian interference in U.S. presidential election); Roger Stone guilty of obstructing a congressional investigation; Paul Manafort guilty of tax evasion of millions; Steve Bannon of defrauding people donating money to build a border wall, etc.

The author referenced President Joe Biden pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, who had been convicted on tax evasion and gun charges. Chief among the complaints is that Biden said he wouldn’t issue such a pardon — that Biden had lied!

The charges of which Hunter was convicted were arguably more severe than those that someone with another name would likely face. I believe Joe Biden had every intention of not pardoning Hunter. I think he truly believed in the judicial system. But Biden made the decision not to pardon Hunter before an untethered criminal was re-elected who, post-election, has voiced his plans for retribution. To accomplish this, he nominated Kash Patel as his nominee for FBI Director to pursue ‘retribution’ against Trump’s political adversaries. Have you seen the video of Kash Patel, rabidly obsessed with Trump’s ‘revenge’, exclaiming that he is coming for all those who attempted to make Trump accountable for his misdeeds. “We’re going to come after you. Whether it is criminally or civilly, we’ll figure that out.” Joe Biden didn’t lie about pardoning Hunter. He changed his mind after listening to felon Donald Trump and Kash Patel.
