OGDEN — Just over a year after ground was broken on the WonderBlock development in downtown Ogden, the project’s main elements are beginning to take shape, with some approaching completion.
In an email Friday, Ogden Communications Director Mike McBride reiterated to the Standard-Examiner plans for the development and its importance to the community.
“WonderBlock is not just another development; it is a catalyst for economic growth and a beacon of progress for the community,” he said. “The $188 million project, developed through a public-private partnership between J. Fisher Companies and the Ogden City Redevelopment Agency (RDA), will introduce 100,000 square feet of Class A commercial office space, 50,000 square feet of retail space, including a 20,000-square-foot grocery store, and 354 high-quality residential units. Additionally, a boutique hotel and vibrant pedestrian pathways will make WonderBlock a true destination in the heart of downtown.”
Additionally, parking options for the development and downtown are a major element of the project, and, according to McBride, will be among the first elements to open to the public.
“The parking infrastructure will help alleviate parking concerns while supporting future downtown growth,” he said. “Also underway is Phase 1 West, which includes additional parking spaces and will largely be home to the mixed-use features of the development. … The main parking structure will continue to be finalized this summer with an anticipated operational date later in 2025. Dates will be announced as the project approaches finalization. Phase 1 West construction will also continue through the summer months with stick framing beginning to form up multi-use spaces.”
The project as a whole is expected to take through 2027 to fully complete.
“This project represents a bright future for Ogden. With its diverse mix of residential, commercial, and retail spaces, WonderBlock will be a cornerstone of downtown Ogden’s future,” McBride said. “The project is expected to attract visitors, support existing businesses, and create new job opportunities, further strengthening the local economy. As the city moves forward with this transformative development, WonderBlock is poised to become a defining landmark that enriches the community for generations to come.”
Ogden Mayor Ben Nadolski said the WonderBlock’s impact will be felt for generations to come.
“WonderBlock is a testament to our city’s commitment to smart, sustainable growth,” he said. “This project is the result of tremendous effort and collaboration from Ogden City’s talented staff, and I couldn’t be prouder of our collective work. As we bring this vision to life, I look forward to the lasting positive impact it will have — not just on our local economy, but also on the meaningful human experiences that will be created right here in our community.”
