Two people ejected from truck in Powder Mountain Road crash
EDEN — Two people were injured Thursday afternoon when a box truck crashed into the mountainside in the area of 5300 N. Powder Mountain Road.
According to Lt. Colby Ryan of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash — which occurred when the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle and drove off the right shoulder of the road — at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Both the driver and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle upon impact with the mountain. Weber Fire District attended to both victims on the scene.
Ryan told the Standard-Examiner that one of the truck’s occupants was transported to a local hospital via Intermountain Life Flight in critical condition, while the other was moved via ambulance in fair condition.
He added that there didn’t appear to be any adverse road conditions affecting the crash; however, the incident is still under investigation.
“The weather conditions were good up there. We had our truck inspector out there; he is still conducting his investigation to see if maybe it was a mechanical failure on the truck, but at this time we don’t have any definite explanation of what happened,” Ryan said.
In the aftermath of the crash, Powder Mountain Road was shut down completely for approximately one hour while crews attended to the victims.
“We would like to thank all the citizens who stopped to help the patients and to Weber Fire District, Life Flight and Utah Highway Patrol for assisting in this crash,” Ryan stated in a release.
