WEBER COUNTY — A woman is dead following a head-on collision near Pineview Reservoir in Ogden Canyon on Wednesday evening.

Chief Deputy Josh Gard of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office told the Standard-Examiner that the crash, which occurred near mile marker 3 on Highway 158, was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. A 72-year-old woman who had been traveling north and a 31-year-old man driving in the opposite direction were involved in the crash.

“It’s unclear at this point who caused the accident,” Gard said. “One of the vehicles crossed over the center lane. They struck head-on. We had one male transported by ambulance to the hospital and then the female passed (away).”

Both lanes of travel were closed for several hours in the wake of the crash.

Neither the woman nor the man have been identified by officials, pending the notification of next of kin. A Thursday release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office indicated that both drivers were residents of the Eden area and also the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.

Gard said that, to his knowledge, there were no other injuries or damages other than to the vehicles and drivers involved.

Weber Fire District joined Weber County Sheriff’s deputies in responding to the crash, according to Gard. The incident currently is being investigated by the Weber-Metro CRASH team.
