OGDEN — Following the rescue of more than 150 dogs from poor conditions at an Ogden home on April 15, a group of local businesses is pooling its resources for an adoption and fundraising event this weekend.

On Sunday, “Canines, Cars & Coffee,” hosted by Scooter’s Coffee at 1085 W. 12th St., will combine a pet adoption and donation drive benefiting the Weber County Animal Shelter (from 8 a.m. to noon) with a Cars & Coffee car meet (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

“This event isn’t just about adoptions — it’s about recognizing the shelter’s commitment, helping them continue their amazing work and mission and bringing the community together to say thank you,” Mark Berger, owner of the Scooter’s Coffee 12th Street location, said in a release.

Although many of the rescued dogs remain in recovery and won’t be up for adoption at the event, other cats and dogs are available now. The hope is that by giving them new homes, space and resources will be freed up for the shelter’s ongoing efforts.

Those adopting a pet during the event will receive a gift package including free drink coupons, pet toys and more courtesy of local businesses. One adopter will also win free Scooter’s Coffee for a year. Attendees making donations will likewise be entered into a raffle for other gifts donated by local businesses.

According to the release, the shelter is in need of cat food and feline care items, but dog food, blankets, toys, cleaning supplies and other items will also be accepted. For a full list of suggested donations, go to https://www.webercountyutah.gov/Animal_Shelter/donations.php/.

Weber Animal Services staff will also be on hand to provide information about volunteer opportunities.

“We’ve been overwhelmed — in the best way — by the support we’ve received since the rescue,” Weber County Animal Shelter’s Melanie Jensen said in the release. “Our team and so many volunteers have been working non-stop to care for these animals, and events like this mean so much. They help us rehome pets who are ready now, gather supplies we need and remind our staff and volunteers that the community sees and values their work.”

The rescued dogs were taken to shelters around the region. On Wednesday, the Humane Society of Utah put out a call for adoptions for some of the animals involved in the case via Facebook.

Starting at $4.32/week.
