A prescribed burn was conducted at the Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area in western Weber County on Tuesday.

The burn was the first of several planned for the coming weeks targeting invasive Phragmites reeds through the coordinated efforts of the Weber Fire District, the Utah Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands and the governments of Box Elder and Cache counties.

A 441-acre portion of Ogden Bay was burned Tuesday.

According to Utah Fire Info, Phragmites are “taking over wetlands like Ogden Bay WMA–altering water flow, crowding out native plants, creating fire-prone areas, and harming waterfowl habitats.”

Information on future burns will be shared by Utah Fire Info on Facebook, Instagram and X.

Starting at $4.32/week.
